Ambassador Gayletha B. Brown (1947-2013)

Ambassador Gayleatha B. Brown Passed Friday at the JFK Medical Center in Edison NJ. Born in Matwon, West Virginia, she had been a resident of Metuchen for 37 yrs. formerly of Edison. Ms. Brown was a United States foreign service officer and ambassador for over 30 yrs. She attained her BA and Ma honor degrees from Howard University and post graduate work in international relations SAIS at Johns Hopkins University. Her career includes, before joining the Department of State Special Assistant to USAID, Asst. Administrator for Africa, and a legislative Assistant to the House of Representatives, with the Department of State she served as the Ambassador to Benin, , Counselor for Political Affairs in Pretoria, South Africa, US Consul General at the ACG., US Deputy Permanent Observer to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, Chief of the Economic and Commercial Sections at the US Embassies in Harare, Zimbabwe; Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Desk Officer for Canada, Senegal, Guinea& Mauritania at the State Dept., Wash. DC., Desk Officer for the Export-Import bank of the US., Representative, Finance and Development officer for at the US Embassies in Paris & Abidjan, representative for OECD. She is listed among the first women in the Rotarians of Tanzania and received 2 Department of State Superior Honors Awards. Predeceased by her father Daivd L. Brown, brothers David, Darrel, & Dennis Brown she is survived by her Mother Nellie and Brother Curtis Brown.
